Sherman County ICE Transfers
The ICE entry in the Facility Map represents a jurisdictional path, not a local building. Research found no ICE detention center in Sherman County and did not verify a contract under which the county jail serves as an ICE detention facility. The map entry exists because a person can leave the county ledger on an immigration hold and enter ICE custody elsewhere.
That county event must be described as a transfer until the receiving system supplies a later status. The Sherman County Sheriff’s movement or release record should identify the date, time, reason, legal authority, hold, and receiving agency or destination. A row merely disappearing from the current-inmate table cannot distinguish an ICE transfer from bond, court release, KDOC commitment, or another agency movement.
ICE’s own record then answers the next custody question. It may show current detention or a recent release from ICE custody. Neither answer changes what the sheriff recorded about the earlier county episode.
Confirm Sherman ICE Detainee Release
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System, or ODLS, offers an identifier route and a biographical route. Exact data matters. A non-result can arise from formatting, spelling, age, timing, transfer, removal, or the system’s retention boundary.
- Obtain the A-number, exact legal name, country of birth, and date of birth when lawfully available.
- For an A-number search, enter exactly nine digits. Add leading zeroes when the number has fewer digits, then enter country of birth.
- For a biographical search, enter the exact first and last name and country of birth. Date of birth is an added field.
- Compare any result with the Sherman County Sheriff’s movement destination and booking identifier.
- If the person appears in current ICE custody, follow the displayed facility and case-information route rather than calling the county event a community release.
- If ODLS does not resolve the status, contact DRIL and check the immigration or criminal court record that applies.
The Sherman County released inmate search explains how to obtain the underlying sheriff record before moving to the federal system.
ICE Detainee Information Contact
ICE’s Detention Reporting and Information Line, or DRIL, provides basic case information. It is the documented fallback when the public locator does not answer a current or recent custody question. DRIL is not the Sherman County jail records line and cannot replace the county movement record.

ICE detention information resources
Sherman County uses Mountain Time, while DRIL posts Eastern Time hours. Account for that difference before calling. Have the A-number or precise identity data ready, along with the county booking and movement details.
For the county event, contact the Sherman County Sheriff at 813 1/2 Broadway, Goodland, KS 67735; 785-890-4835; or sheriff@shermancountyks.gov. Ask for the existing booking, hold, release, and destination fields.
ICE Locator Coverage Limits
ICE’s attorney resource says ODLS includes people currently in ICE custody and people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. That is a limited recent-history window, not a permanent released-person archive. Once the interval passes, a public non-result cannot establish that no ICE custody event occurred.
The locator excludes people under 18. Exact-name mismatches can also prevent a match. An ICE non-result can reflect removal, transfer, another jurisdiction, data timing, or a search outside the documented period. It is never proof of community release by itself.
ODLS addresses civil immigration custody. It does not show the complete Sherman County criminal case, county release authority, or every federal criminal detention record. Keep those systems separate.
Sherman ICE Hold Records
A targeted county request should ask for the actual release or movement date and time, release code, legal authority, destination, receiving agency, and disposition of each hold or detainer. Include the booking identifier so the response matches the right person and custody episode. If movement and release data are stored separately, ask for both existing tables or entries.
The county’s KORA process requires a written request. Its official form is convenient but not mandatory. County offices list weekday hours, copying and actual-cost charges, and a response milestone by the third business day. That milestone does not guarantee final production in three days.
Ask for electronic delivery and an estimate. If a field is withheld, request the precise exemption and any segregable public portion. Do not ask the county to create a new immigration-status conclusion. The goal is the historical movement it already records.
Sherman Court and ICE Records
Sherman County District Court records can explain bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, and the legal authority for county custody. They do not establish the later ICE status. Pair the filed order with the sheriff movement record and then ODLS or DRIL.
Federal immigration proceedings follow a separate court and agency structure. A state criminal docket cannot decide whether ICE later detained, released, transferred, or removed someone. Likewise, an ICE result does not supply the final disposition of the Sherman County charge.
Goodland also has a municipal court for city-ordinance matters. Search the court tied to the charge. An order in one case does not remove a hold or authority in another case.
- Detainer or hold
- A request or legal basis that can affect what happens when another agency’s custody ends.
- Transfer
- A movement from one custodian to another, not release into the community.
- A-number
- An immigration identifier used in the ODLS search, entered as nine digits.
- Removal
- An immigration outcome distinct from ordinary community release.
Sherman Federal Custody Boundaries
ICE, the Bureau of Prisons, and the U.S. Marshals Service have different roles. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and can display a release date with “Released” or “Not in BOP custody.” That language does not prove the person is free from ICE, state, local, or supervised-release authority.
The U.S. Marshals Service handles many federal pretrial and transfer detainees, but no official public USMS released-person locator was verified. A short-term federal detainee may never appear as a sentenced BOP inmate. Use the federal docket, release order, district contact, and named holding facility.
Do not substitute one negative search for another. A BOP non-result does not answer an immigration question, and an ODLS non-result does not answer a federal criminal question. Follow the receiving agency named by the county record.
Recent Sherman ICE Release Meaning
An ODLS result showing release within the documented 60-day period confirms what ICE reports about its own custody. It does not prove the absence of a new county, state, federal, or other custody event. Record the access date and verify material facts with the originating office.
If the result is current detention, use the facility and ICE channels shown for that case. If it reports recent release, obtain the relevant ICE record when the exact date, authority, or destination matters. DRIL provides basic information but may not disclose every protected detail.
For events older than the public interval, preserve the Sherman County movement record and pursue the lawful ICE records route appropriate to the person or authorized requester. Do not promise that ODLS retains a released entry beyond its stated window.
Note: No verified Sherman County ICE detention center or county ICE contract was found in the project research.
